Investiture: NIPR Lauds Gov. Mutfwang For Restoring Cohesion in Governance
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has applauded the governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang for his efforts towards restoring and sustaining cohesion, solidarity and consensus in the governance of the North Central states.
This commendation was made by the President, Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the investiture of the governor as Patron of the Institute, an event which took place at Government House, Jos the state capital.
The NIPR President was excited that the state Chief Executive is acknowledging the efforts of his predecessors despite political differences under his "Greater Together" project, tapping into their experiences to advance the frontiers of good governance for the people of the state.
"Each governor that comes will create the impression that his predecessor did not do anything right. For the first time, we are seeing a governor who is bringing everybody to the table. At the end of the day, it's all about the Plateau and the interest of the people. You are tapping from the experiences of those who came before you, converting it into your global ideas to give Plateau the best of things they need to have", he stated.
The investiture is in line with the NIPR Act designating governors as Patrons, with only the President of the Federal Republic as Grand Patron. Dr. Neliaku however noted that beyond this provision, the Institute conducts due diligence on anyone it chooses to associate with in order to protect its image.
"It is not everybody that becomes our Patron because he or she is a governor. Public Relations thrives on reputation and perception", he stated.
Dr. Neliaku along with Council Members was also taken on a tour of key developmental projects of the governor, including the recently commissioned Utonkon Flyover, subsidized transportation scheme, Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA) among others by the Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashom.
He commended the governor for successfully galvanising the support of his people to take ownership of his developmental projects, particularly noting that his ability to invest in infrastructure that meets the needs of citizens through engagement and robust dialogue stands him out.
In his response, Governor Mutfwang who dedicated the honour to the citizens of Plateau State who gave him and his team the platform to contribute their quota in the governance of the state added that the government under him has set a high standard, and is committed to making the people proud.
"We are by this honour rededicating ourselves to ensure that we deliver the highest good to the highest number of people", he said.
While emphasising that the honour is a clarion call to do more than he has done in the past, Governor Mutfwang reiterated his readiness to restore public trust in public administration, deploying the tool of effective communication to foster citizens engagement.
He assured that he will continue to communicate and lead in a way that gives hope to every Plateau citizen irrespective of political, religious and ethnic alignments.
Earlier, the NIPR delegation led by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Musa Ashom took a tour of key projects of the state government, including the recently completed and commissioned Utonkon Bridge which was abandoned for years, Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), the state government subsidized transport scheme park as well as the Jos Wildlife Park.
The team also paid a courtesy visit to the former governor of the state, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Jonah Jang at his Jos South home.
