NIPR President Urges Practitioners to Adopt Storytelling Tool
The President of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku has stated that storytelling is a powerful tool in the practice of public relations and public speaking, urging every practitioner to imbibe it.
Dr. Neliaku speaking at the monthly professional platform of NIPR-FCT Chapter on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 in commendation of presentation of the keynote speaker, Moses George Duku, Head Communications, Media & Public Relations Greenville Liquefied Natural Gas Company Ltd said storytelling gives the speaker total control of attention of the audience.
"As PR professionals, you must know that storytelling is so powerful. You may have your theories, you may have your narratives, but please always engage with storytelling. It's a very powerful tool.
"Some may call it illustrations, but irrespective of what you want to call it, always know that it works. If you want to do well in public speaking, you need to tell stories. Nigerians love stories, but human beings actually appreciate storytelling. It's very important", the NIPR boss advised.
He also challenged PR practitioners to understand their operating environment and learn how to engage systematically at all times.
The NIPR President further commended the leadership of the FCT Chapter of the Institute for the innovative leadership it has brought on brought less than one year in office.
Dr. Neliaku particularly expressed satisfaction with the PR Club project of the Chapter, which he described as a deliberate effort to groom a credible successor generation.
"The PR Club is one of the areas that the current Council has taken very seriously and I'm glad that you have taken the the responsibility to drive it.
"I will request you to develop what will become a pilot out of the experiences you are gathering from all that is going on, so that we can now refine it and make it a national project", he added.
