NIPR Assures Support for Robust Government, Citizens Engagement
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) says it will continue to provide and promote opportunities that will help the government engage with citizens on issues of concern, noting that it is the only way to carry the masses along and gain their support for policies of government.
The President and Chairman of Council of the Institute, Dr. Ike Neliaku gave this assurance on Saturday, December 7, 2024 while speaking at a public lecture in Kaduna with the theme, "Tax Reform: The Role of Public Relations in Fostering Constructive Dialogue for National Economic Renaissance" organised by the Kaduna State Chapter of the Institute.
While underlining the need for stakeholder engagement which he described as a core function of public relations, the NIPR boss said the public lecture serves as a platform to give citizens clearer understanding of the direction of government while also helping the government feel the pulse of those they lead.
"It is in the light of discharging our responsibility to the society that we have provided this credible professional platform for citizens to engage with government, on this crucial matter of tax reform bill.
"We have done research, we have followed up, we have engaged and we can really predict that unless we all sit down, as we are doing now to discuss this matter, people may not understand where the government is headed and the government cannot understand the feelings of our the citizens", he stated.
Also in his remarks, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris noted that public relations practitioners have a unique role in shaping narratives, promoting collaboration, and fostering trust between the government and the citizenry.
While reiterating the federal government's commitment to participatory democracy, the Minister emphasised that open communication, inclusivity, and transparency are central to ensuring that the tax reforms deliver equitable benefits.
