Minister Seeks NIPR Partnership on Improved Employer-Employee Relations
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammed Maigari Dingyadi has called for partnership between the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and his ministry to improve relations between employers and employees.
Dingyadi advocated this on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 in Abuja when he hosted the leadership of NIPR, FCT Chapter in his office who had come to pay a 'thank you' visit for his active participation in the 2024 AGM of the Chapter.
He expressed delight to receive the high-powered delegation, which also had the President and Chairman of Council of the Institute, Dr. Ike Neliaku, his Vice Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura and Council Members.
The Minister while noting that industrial harmony is at the core of productivity at both the public and private sector said the ministry will be willing to partner with NIPR to strengthen relations between employers and employees through effective communication.
He said, "As a ministry, we don't employ, we only create the enabling environment for Nigerians to be gainfully employed. Only the (Federal) Civil Service Commission employs.
"These are some of the areas we believe you can make contributions and educate the people. Also, you can help improve relations between employers and workers, both in public and private sector. This can be achieved by way of efficient communication", he stated.
He also commended the energy and innovation the current leadership of the Institute has brought on board which he said has increased the relevance of NIPR in national discourse.
Earlier, NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku expressed the Institute's readiness to partner with the ministry in areas of interest to boost service delivery and increase the productivity of workers across various sectors.
He said, “We are making ourselves available to the ministry. Just let us know the areas you want us to support you with, and we will be very willing to assist. The reason is very simple; this is the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. It does not belong to anybody, it belongs to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is our duty to manage the productivity, reputation and image of any organisation".
Also speaking, the Chairman NIPR FCT Chapter, Stanley Ogadigo while describing the Minister as a contemporary leader thanked him for associating with Chapter.
He extolled the Minister's humility and the excellent character of a good leader he has consistently demonstrated even in past political positions he has held.
